  • Facials
What is a Facial? A facial is essentially a multi-step skin treatment that is one of the best ways to take care of your skin. A facial cleanses, exfoliates, and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion and can help your skin look younger. You also receive advice on the best way to take care of your skin. A facial works best when it is part of an on-going program of skin Acne Facial What is an Acne facial? If you are struggling with acne, your typical acne facial cleanser might not be cutting it. The acne facial is an alternative treatment designed to treat the root cause of acne with minimal side effects. Acne facials focus primarily on extractions for blocked pores. The extraction process releases any excess build-up of oil and cleans out dirt that might be clogging up your pores. This can reduce the look and feel of acne and calm inflammation in your skin. For mild cases of acne, an esthetician at a salon can perform your acne facial. However, if you have severe acne, you may consider having this type of facial performed by a dermatologist. What should I expect from an acne facial appointment? An acne facial starts with a thorough facial cleansing and exfoliation. The esthetician or dermatologist will then do an extraction process for your clogged pores, which can be done with finger-applied pressure and a cotton ball on either side of the pore, or with tools. This is often followed by a mask or facial massage to calm the skin. Often, products such as salicylic and glycolic acids may be used to remove dead skin cells as part of the facial treatment. At the end of the facial, you may be offered product to use at home to treat acne between facials. There’s no expectation to make a purchase, of course – it’s totally up to you. What are the benefits of acne facials? The main benefit of this type of facial, of course, is the reduction of facial acne. The treatment should help reduce redness and inflammation, and help the skin rebalance. With regular treatments, future acne breakouts may be minimized. Are there side-effects from acne facials? There are minimal side effects from an acne facial. Occasionally people do experience inflamed skin after some of the treatments, but this often subsides within a few hours. If you have especially sensitive skin, let the esthetician know beforehand as it may change which treatments they perform. How many visits will I need to see results? You should start to see results after your first acne facial. However, you may need to make multiple visits to achieve your desired results depending on the severity of the breakout. It’s also important to take good care of your skin at home in between facial visits, and a good esthetician will be able to recommend an effective follow-up routine. Back Facial What are Back facials? Back facials include the same techniques you would find in a standard facial, including deep cleansing and exfoliation, purifying masks, and extractions for clogged pores. Back facials are also very popular for treating back acne, but are also good for treating other skin conditions such as oily skin. What should I expect during a back facial appointment? For a back facial, you’ll lie face down on a table as an esthetician uses cleansing products, exfoliation techniques, and extractions if needed. Back facial extractions usually start with a steam treatment to loosen the pores, before an esthetician uses special products and tools to extract oils and debris from clogged pores. Normal back facials include a relaxing mini massage that helps deeply moisturize the skin with special creams or oils, preventing oily skin or dryness later on. What are the benefits of back facials? Back facials are most popular for treating back acne, and are great for doing just that. But back facials can also help with inflammation, itchiness, dryness, and oily skin – or just help you look better without a shirt on. What should I do after a back facial? Depending on your skin type, you may have some redness and irritation after extractions, and your esthetician may recommend moisturizers and other products to help keep skin balanced between sessions. To treat back acne, it may take multiple sessions plus at-home care in between visits. Oxygen Facial What is an oxygen facial? An oxygen facial is done with a machine that applies pure, pressurized oxygen onto the skin and helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Oxygen facial treatments also help increase the production of collagen, which can help you have healthier and younger-looking skin. What are the benefits of oxygen facials? Oxygen facials offer a host of benefits. They can make skin look younger, reduce wrinkles, clean pores, and can help with rosacea and acne. Additionally, they promote natural skin elasticity by stimulating collagen production. Oxygen facials can include vitamin and antioxidant infusions as part of the process, which can enhance the benefits of the facial and overall health of the skin. What can I expect during my appointment? While you may be expecting something like an oxygen mask, the treatment is actually performed with an airbrush-like wand. The wand applies oxygen and sometimes anti-aging serums or moisturizers into the face. We will pass over your face with the wand until they’ve covered the whole area. How often do I need to get oxygen facials? We recommend that you get treatments once a week for six weeks in the beginning, followed by touchups whenever needed afterwards. Oxygen facial sessions are very short, so it is best to schedule multiple appointments over the course of a few weeks. Microcurrent Facial What is a Microcurrent Galvanic facial? A Galvanic facial (also referred to as a Microcurrent facial) is a specialized facial where mild pulses of energy – called galvanic electrical currents - are sent to your facial muscles with a specialized device. This is used to increase the regeneration of cells in your skin. This type of therapy is gaining popularity and being used by many salons and dermatologist offices. Sometimes referred to as a non-surgical facelift, a galvanic facial gives the benefits of a facial while also firming the contours of your face. What should I expect? In the beginning of the session, a specialized pre-treatment gel will be applied to your face. Next, a small metal instrument will be used to send the galvanic electrical current to your facial muscles. This helps tone them and tighten any sagging skin. In addition, it will help to smooth and rejuvenate skin and decrease the size of pores. The treatment is painless and done in less than an hour. Some people report a mild tingling feeling on their face during and directly after the procedure. What are the benefits? The benefits of a galvanic facial are to reduce wrinkles, tightens pores, and increases blood flow which helps replenish your skin. Some people experience a reduction in acne and reduced inflammation following each session. For best results, 3-4 sessions are recommended over the course of two months. What are the risks? If you have major dental work, a pacemaker, metal pins or plates in your face, or are pregnant, you should avoid this type of facial. If you think the above may apply to you, check with the spa or dermatologist prior to scheduling this type of facial. For those who do undergo a galvanic facial, very few side effects are reported. Some people report feeling a slight tingle in their face both during and after the procedure. Anti-Aging facials Anti aging seems to be on everyone’s minds these days. Both men and women are trying different types of anti-aging facial treatments in order to reduce the signs of aging. Many have found the anti-aging facial to be an effective, non-invasive treatment to prevent or reduce fine lines and wrinkles. What are anti-aging facials? An anti-aging facial is a type of facial that focuses on improving the elasticity in your skin to reduce the signs of aging. Many people in their 20s and 30s turn to anti-aging facials as a preventative measure. What are the benefits? This type of facial improves the elasticity and health of your skin, helping to reduce the signs of aging. It helps keep your skin healthy, nourished, and replenished, which all prevent or reduce fine lines, creases and wrinkles. What should I expect? The facial often starts with the cleansing of your skin, followed by the esthetician analyzing your skin under a magnifying lamp to get a clear picture of your skin’s health. Based on their findings, you can expect a personalized combination of exfoliation, extractions, and a facial massage. A collagen mask or serums may also be used to nourish and replenish your skin. What are the risks? Like other facials, there are minimal risks and side effects. You may experience some redness, irritation, skin breakouts, or scarring in very rare cases. Generally, the more sensitive your skin, the more side effects you will have. Your esthetician may not perform some treatments if you are taking antibiotics or other medications that tend to cause your skin to be more susceptible to risks. Make sure you share this information with your esthetician prior to treatment.
  • Exosomes Facial Rejuvenation
Who Can Benefit From Exosome Facial Rejuvenation? Anyone who is experiencing any of the following skin problems can significantly benefit from our innovative Exosome Facial Rejuvenation: Acne Scaring Wrinkles that haven’t improved with other treatments Sagging skin Sun-damaged Age spots Uneven texture or enlarged pores Benefits of Exosome Facial Rejuvenation Therapy Exosome facial rejuvenation can increase skin collagen in the treated areas by up to six-fold and also increases elastin levels by up to 300%. The increase in the collagen and elastin levels will result in: Visible reduction of fine lines, wrinkles and age spots Improved skin brightness and hydration Noticeable decrease in redness and skin irritation Improve the appearance of skin lesions and scars Noticeable improvement in skin texture and pore size What Are Exosomes? Human cells are made up of various components called organelles. Exosomes form when these organelles fuse with the cell wall creating tiny sacs that are then released and taken up by other cells. The exosomes carry important components within them like proteins, DNA, and RNA from one cell to another, modifying the function of the recipient cells. How Exosomes Affect The Function of Other Cells Scientists found that when a healthy cell sends an exosome to an unhealthy cell, the damaged cell begins to repair and regenerate itself. Exosomes used at Bay Area Aesthetics are derived from human adipose tissue derived mesenchymal stem cells in FDA registers labs. This capacity to send “healing” signals from one cell to another makes exosomes a much better alternative to traditional platelet rich plasma and stem cell therapy. Exosomes have a thousand times stronger regenerative power due to numerous growth factors as compared to PRP. Researchers at the University of North Carolina State conducted a proof-of-concept study that showed exosomes harvested from human skin cells were more effective in repairing sun-damaged skin cells than other popular treatments, including those using retinol or stem cells. Are The Exosomes Used in Facial Rejuvenation Harvested from The Patient? No, you won’t have to undergo any stem cell harvesting procedure. The exosomes used in our cutting edge facial rejuvenation come from reputable biotech companies that guarantee the purity and viability of the exosomes. Additionally, thanks to the nanometer-sized of exosomes, these are delivered to the target cells via needle-free injections. Why Are Exosomes So Effective in Facial Rejuvenation Unlike stem cells and other therapies, scientists discovered that exosomes could be manipulated to perform specific actions. The exosomes in our exclusive facial rejuvenation treatment are designed to help skin cells regenerate at a faster rate so you can look and feel years younger.

  • Lash Lift
What is a Lash Lift? A lash lift curls your lash from base to tip so that you can see the full length. All lashes have a natural shape to them, so this process alters that shape via a tiny curling rod and a lifting solution. The treatment should always be performed by a professional. What is Getting a Lash Lift Like? We will cleanse the eye area and place a silicone rod onto the eyelids. The natural lashes are then curled over and attached to the rod with an adhesive to set the lashes. Once everything is positioned correctly, a lifting lotion is applied to allow the lashes to mold around the curling rod, followed by a setting lotion that sets the lash shape. Expect the whole thing to take about 45-60 minutes. How Long Does a Lash Lift Last? The results typically last four to six weeks, depending on how quickly your eyelashes grow. You should avoid mascara for 48 hours after the treatment, and leave lashes untouched for a full day. No makeup, or water should come in contact with your lashes for 24 hours to ensure the lift correctly sets into shape. Then, you can fully enjoy the treatment’s results.
  • Chemical Peels
We can highlight this one as a Bay Area Aesthetics Favorite: NeoStrata Retinol Peels: Chemical peels are one of the best treatments for improving your overall skin health and appearance. Everyone should incorporate chemical peels into their skin care regimen. Are you seeking something outside of your normal peel routine? Do you want dramatic results without the dramatic downtime? NeoStrata Retinol Peels pack a 3-tiered treatment system that reduces wrinkles and blemishes, firms skin, and brightens your complexion. The peel is administered in the office and must be left on for up to 8 hours to fully do its job before washing the peel off at home, but the results are worth the wait. It is a very effective peel with minimal downtime, showing visible results even after one peel, although a series of four to six peels at four to six week intervals is recommended. Treatment begins with the application of 1-2 layers of the specially formulated NeoStrata peel, which contains a proprietary and proven blend of ingredients for maximum results: 3% Retinol to boost the production of collagen and speed up the skin’s natural exfoliation process NeoCitrate®: an ingredient patented by NeoStrata to increase collagen production and plump the skin. Amino ll®: an amino acid derivative which boosts hyaluronic acid to plump skin and smooth lines. Once the peel, is applied, it must be left on for 4-8 hours, depending on the sensitivity of your skin. During that time, it is best to stay out of the sun, as your skin will be incredibly sensitive. After time is up, rinse your skin thoroughly to remove the peel. At first, it may seem like the treatment didn’t actually cause a skin peel, but 2-3 days after application, you’ll notice that old skin begins to flake off. In 5-7 days, the peeling will taper off, revealing radiant, glowing skin that has been refreshed and renewed by your retinol peel. Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) are usually derived from citric (citrus fruits), glycolic (sugar cane), lactic (fermented milk), malic (apples) and tartaric (grapes). Glycolic and Lactic Acid are the two most commonly applied. AHAs are the mildest of all chemical peels. They are primarily beneficial for the treatment of very fine lines, dry and dehydrated skin, mild skin and pigment irregularities and acne. Lactic Acid is very hydrating and brightening to the skin. It has a very large molecular structure and thus it tends to be less irritating. Glycolic Acid has the smallest molecular structure, penetrating quickly and deeper - thus being more irritating. It tends to feel "spicy" on the skin during the professional treatment. ProSystem Rejuvenating Peels Offered: Glycolic Acid Peel including 20%, 35%, 50% and 70%, Clarifying Peel of 30%, Mandelic and Citric Acid, Brightening Peel of 30% Citric Acid. Note: visible exfoliation/flaking may not occur. Your skin may feel rough for a couple of days while the skin exfoliates the rough surface layers. Retinol Peel ProSystem Retinol Peel is an advanced, 3% Retinol Peel that is clinically proven to exfoliate and improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne-prone skin and skin laxity. Note: visible exfoliation will likely occur for a few days following the peel. Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) are lipid based (oil loving) and the most widely used acid is salicylic. They tend to work very well on oily skin types, helping to control oil production, on acne prone and congested skin, and to a certain extent perform better than AHAs (due to their ability to penetrate deeper with their lipid base capabilities attaching to our own natural skin oils). Salicylic Acid is known as a “Roto-Rooter" for the pores. Salicylic acid has anti-inflammatory properties, which can reduce redness and irritation from breakouts. Jessner's Peels are typically a combination of lactic acid, salicylic acid and resorcinol in an ethanol base. The resorcinol drives the other acids farther into the skin layers. Jessner's peels vary by strength and percentages of acid used. Some are classified as a mild Jessner's, like those combining additional acids, such as mandelic derived from bitter almonds, which is calming to the skin and helps reduce redness and inflammation. Phytic acid from rice bran is a natural skin brightener. Clients with sensitive/sensitized skin, such as those with rosacea, can benefit from receiving chemical peels with lactic, mandelic and phytic acid. Jessner's Peels are often followed by a layer of retinoic acid, aiding in deeper peel penetration, allowing the acid to effectively break the "glue" between the skin cells known as keratinocytes. Combining retinoic acid into the peel provides enhanced results and facilitates in skin healing. Trichloroacetic Acid Peels (TCA) are perhaps the most frequently used acid for a medium depth peel. It is available in a range of strengths and combinations. Many times it is used at lower percentages in conjunction with other acids such as salicylic acid. When used as a stand alone agent with percentages above 20%, it should be under medical supervision. TCA peels are a great choice for advanced pigment irregularities, sun damage, deeper wrinkles and acne scars. Depending on the strength and percentage used, TCA can be classified as a medium-deep chemical peel. The deeper the peel, the greater the results and skin rejuvenation. It also means additional down time due to increased skin sensitivity, redness, inflammation, skin peeling and healing. A higher risk of complications can also arise with deeper peels. Superficial chemical peels are a suitable choice for individuals who have never had a professional chemical peel service, or people looking for mild correction and skin care maintenance. But keep in mind, they are just that… superficial. Even a series of 3-6 superficial peels spaced 3-4 weeks apart is not going to remove deep lines, wrinkles and excess pigment abnormalities. Professional strength chemical peels with a very low PH offered in medical facilities generally are performed by licensed aestheticians and physicians. They are not the same as over- the-counter (OTC) or do-it-yourself (DIY) home peel kits that may possibly be purchased online. Those are often "buffered" and may be diluted. If you purchase some type of acid online with a PH of 3.0 or lower, it can result in health risks, including injury and scarring in the hands of an untrained person. So when it comes to your skin and chemical peels, leave it to the licensed professionals to make the decision on what is best for you and your skin condition. Simple, easy, non-complicated.

  • MicroDermabrasion
What is a microdermabrasion facial? Microdermabrasion is a type of deep exfoliation that helps reduce imperfections such as blemishes and small wrinkles. It can also help reduce mild acne or acne damage. It is a cosmetic procedure in which the topmost layer of skin, called the stratum corneum, is removed by an abrasive treatment. What are the benefits of microdermabrasion treatments? A microdermabrasion treatment is good for dealing with mild acne and mild acne scarring, as well as for correcting skin imperfections that are located in the stratum corneum. With the topmost layer gone, the skin is stimulated to produce new cells, giving you a fresh and rejuvenated look. Treatments also clean and unclog pores, thanks to both the exfoliation and the suction that removes dirt and dead skin cells. An added benefit is that microdermabrasion increases the effectiveness of lotions and creams by removing obstructions from pores. Note that you might need more than one treatment in order to get the full benefits of microdermabrasion treatments, but you should wait at least a couple of weeks between them. What should I expect from a microdermabrasion session? A typical microdermabrasion treatment is painless. In fact, you probably won’t feel any discomfort at all, and of course it’s done without the use of anesthetics or painkillers. Diamond microdermabrasion is considered to be generally safer than crystal microdermabrasion, because there are no small particles that could be inhaled or get into the eyes. After either diamond or regular microdermabrasion you’ll experience mild swelling and skin redness, both of which should subside within a matter of hours. Your skin will also be more sensitive after the treatment – especially to sun exposure – so make sure to apply sunscreen and keep in the shade as much as possible. What are the downsides of microdermabrasion treatments? Since Microdermabrasion only treats the top layer of skin, deeper imperfections or scars won’t be affected. For example, stretch marks or more sever acne scars cannot be effectively treated with microdermabrasion, although some people do see some minor benefits from the treatment. For deeper treatments, you might want to consider a chemical peel facial.
  • Spray Tan
The Night Before Your Tan Please shave or wax your legs the night before your tan. Moisturize really well before bed. Exfoliate THOROUGHLY as well. This will remove dead skin and provide a new, smooth surface for your tan. Exfoliating helps to promote even coverage and lengthens the duration of the tan. DO NOT USE DOVE PRODUCTS! Dove soap and Dove lotions leave a film on your skin that directly leads to a blotchy tan. The Day Of Your Tan Review and Sign the Release Form Remove make-up, moisturizer, perfume and deodorant before your application. It is recommended that you wear dark, loose fitting clothing. Solution washes out of most clothing very easily but tends to stain nylon and Lycra materials; therefore, dark colored underwear is recommended. A woman’s tan can be directly affected by her hormones. Considering her cycle, it can cause blotchiness or the color not to develop as dark as normally. It’s not common, but it happens. Oily skin types usually develop lighter and require an extra spray after 24-48 hours to get your base color. Aftercare Let your tan set for at least 4-6 hours (overnight if possible) before showering or taking a bath. This allows your tan to develop. Avoid wearing socks or shoes after your tanning session in order to allow the tan to develop properly on your feet. Avoid applying moisturizers or deodorants immediately after. Avoid wearing tight clothing for at least 5 hours. This includes tighter-fitting jeans, bras, spandex, tight blouses and shoes/socks. All swimming, showering and vigorous exercise must be avoided for at least 5 hours as sweating can inhibit the development of your tan. Do not shave for 12 hours after your treatment. Beware wearing long boots after tanning as these can make your tan patchy on your legs. Remember: When you take a shower or a bath you will probably see some color wash off. Don’t worry. This is quite normal as it is only the color guide that the spray tan technician uses when the tan is applied. You will be left with a gorgeous tan. WE HAVE FOUND THAT THE FOLLOWING PRODUCTS WILL LIGHTEN OR MAKE AN AIRBRUSH TAN SPOTTY: Dove soap and Dove products Hair thinning lotion or removing lotion Anti-aging products or AHA’s Beta Hydroxy Acids-salicylic acid Retin-A type products (Retin-A, Renova, Tazorac, Tretinoin) Toners containing alcohols or witch hazel Anti-acne products(Accutane, salicylic acid) Facial masks and scrubs Pore cleansing facial strips Waxing Hot tubs, chlorine and salt water Bleach products for body hair Bug sprays – try to spray your clothes instead of you. If you must have it on you, spray a “cloud” to go through. Maintaining The Tan It is recommended you follow these general guidelines to maintain your tan: Moisturize regularly. Avoid long hot baths and showers as these speed up exfoliation. Pat your skin dry after a bath or shower. Rubbing your skin may rub off your tan. Avoid swimming pools and salt water, as these can reduce your tan. Try to always have a fresh new razor for shaving.
  • What is Dermaplaning?
It involves using a tool with a short upward stroke while being held at a 45-degree angle to exfoliate the skin. Since it is being held at such an angle and the technician uses light feathering strokes, there is no worry about piercing the skin. The technique may look similar to shaving your face, but it is much more effective because of the blade being used and offers many benefits. There is also no need to worry about the hair getting any darker; dermaplaning targets the vellus hair (peach fuzz) that grows back the same size and color. It is physiologically impossible to grow back thick and darker. After the treatment, we may offer a hydrating moisturizer to finalize the process. The treatment removes the dead skin that has built up over two to three weeks. Dermaplaning provides an effective and safe exfoliation treatment that promotes deeper product penetration, boosting the effects of skin care products while making the skin look and feel smoother and also reducing the appearance of acne scars. The treatment also works to remove facial hair that can trap dirt and oils. We may recommend dermaplaning to anyone about to undergo a chemical peel treatment to allow better penetration and, therefore, better results. This treatment is also an option for those who are ineligible for other products or procedures, like those who are pregnant or have very sensitive skin.
